  • Benefit Sunday for Cheryl Lindell

    • email print
  • There will be a benefit Sunday at the St. James American Legion to help Cheryl Lindell, diagnosed with Stage III breast cancer in January, with medical costs associated with her treatment.
Lindell is a St. James native, and she currently lives a handful of miles outside town. Every Friday, she heads to Mankato for treatment from Mayo Clinic Health Systems.
Emily Meixell is one of the organizers for the benefit--along with other members of St. John’s Lutheran Church--and, though it’s her first time helping with an event of this nature, she couldn’t pass on an opportunity to “help out a family in need.” She’s been a friend of Lindell’s daughter since both girls were children, and so she’s known Cheryl Lindell her entire life. The benefit offers a photo booth, breakfast, a silent auction, and even a chair masseuse.
Lindell has three daughters, Heidi, Alicia, and Cassie, and all still live within an hour of St. James. Consequently, they’ve been able to take turns driving her to and from medical appointments.
Her treatment began with a “really intense” round of chemotherapy in February, which lasted two months, she said. Now, she’s on a path of 12 treatments with a pair of drugs, and she has three treatments left on that course. Following that, it’ll be six weeks of radiation.
The benefit is from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday at the St. James American Legion. Breakfast includes pancakes, eggs, and sausages. Bidding will close at 12:30 p.m. for the silent auction, and the photo booth will be available from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
There will be a freewill donation with supplemental funds provided by the Watonwan County chapter 31214 of Thrivent Financial for Lutherans. Cash donations can be made to the chapter, 510 10th St. S., St. James, MN, 56081, attention Kathy Rathman. Those who wish to donate for the silent auction can call Meixell at 507-380-2252.
