  • Youth Baseball Benefits from Chevy Test Drive

    • email print
  • Through the magic of advertizing, Americans have been told for decades that hot dogs, baseball, apple pie, and Chevrolet are American icons, and one local car dealership is pairing two of those ideas together.
During a test drive event Monday evening outside the St. James Varsity Baseball Field, Mel Carlson Chevrolet in Truman donated $10 to the St. James Youth Baseball Association for every completed Chevrolet test drive--up to $500. To participate, all drivers had to be at least 18 and be in possession of a valid driver’s license.
Jose Lopez, sales consultant at the dealership, said they’ve helped the Truman youth baseball team in the past, but this is their first time assisting St. James, and it’s also the first time they’ve done a test-drive event. “This allows us to work together with the youth association to raise money.”
At $10 a driver, they needed a minimum of 50 test drives Monday, so the youth baseball could get a $500 check. Available to test drive were a 2014 Chevy Malibu, a 2014 Chevy Impala, and a 2014 Chevy Silverado--which seemed the most popular model to try among the test drivers. Test drives lasted about 10 minutes, and drivers only went a couple miles. They also filled out registration forms with things like their name, address, email, phone number, etc.
