Community Building Ramp Construction to Begin in September

On Tuesday, the St. James City Council discussed the removal and construction of a new ramp at the community center. Funding for the project will come from the Capital Improvement Fund and the city’s Liquor Store Fund.  The council accepted bids from CAB Construction, Wilcon and Kuehl Electric at the meeting.

The council approved a request by the St. James VFW, to modify a city ordinance pertaining to outdoor patio requirements, which would apply to a new outdoor patio for smokers in front of their building.

A taxi permit for Quick’s Taxi was approved. The business was started by Joseph Quick, who is a new resident in St. James and realized that transportation is hard to come by in the city late at night.  Quick’s Taxi will be on call 24 hour a day once the get started.

The city council set fees for septage and leachate, and changed the prices based on an evaluation of other communities around the area and the realization that St. James was undercharging.  The city is adding an annual permit fee for both, as opposed to an administration fee.
