The St. James Community Theater will perform “The Secret Garden” Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, and director Katie Wojtalewicz promises an “emotional, haunting” experience that “really strikes a chord.”

Though she’s been involved with the community theater since she was five, this will be her first directorial project. Her parents took her to see this musical when she was 13, and since then, she swore she’d made it her first effort if she ever had a chance to direct.

“It stuck with me,” she said. “I loved the book as a kid, and the theater production is cool because it’s the core story, but the musical take expands on it--it explores the backstory of the adults.”

Each performance will be at 7 p.m. in the Little Theater. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children.
