Hartwin Kietzer of Truman, Minnesota started giving blood in 1950. A friend of Hartwin’s had been injured in a tractor rollover and in 1950 you either paid for a blood transfusion or you had someone give replacement blood in your name. Hartwin stepped up to the plate for his friend and gave the needed blood and has been stepping up to the plate on an average of almost three times a year since then.
Last week the Red Cross held a blood drive at 1st Lutheran in St. James and Hartwin was there giving blood and making the 18 gallon mark. Read more in the July 22 Plaindealer.
