On Monday night the St. James School Board held their first meeting of 2017 at the Armstrong school. The 2016 Board Chair, Mike Tonsager called the meeting to order, and the first thing on the agenda was to vote on a new Board Chair for 2017. Mike Tonsager was once again nominated for the position, along with Michelle Mohlenbrock, the vote passed for Mohlenbrock to be the 2017 Chair. Dustin Anderson was the only person nominated and appointed as the Clerk for 2017. The vote for 2017 Vice Chair between Luisa Trapero and Richard Spitzner was awarded to Spitzner, while Trapero was nominated and appointed as the 2017 Treasurer.

Enrollment has been increasing for a few months now. Since last month the enrollment has jumped up by 4 students.

Principal of the St. James High School, Karla Beck, presented her school report at the end of the meeting. There are a number of new classes that are being offered to the students this year. The new courses include; Agri Sciences and Biotechnology, Advanced Foods, Careers with Kids, Literature through Film, Intro Strength Conditioning, Sports History, and Sports and Nutrition. Beck expressed excitement in the Sports and Nutrition class because it will be co-taught by Physical Education and FACS, so one day the class could be lifting weights, and the next they could be learning how to prepare healthy meals.

The next St. James School Board meeting is set for February 13 at 6:00 p.m.
