This upcoming week will be the final week for Linda Winter working at First Avenue Styles. Winter has been a staple in the community of St. James since starting First Avenue Styles in 1984.
In 1989 Winter sold the business to Leora Murphy, but remained working there. With the ownership change the business moved to its current location near the bakery. Just in the nick of time too, because not long after moving the building suffered from fire.
Working at First Avenue Styles introduced Winter to many different community members, “I have met a lot of people here, and I am thankful for how great the city of St. James has treated me.” She also would like to thank all of her coworkers that she has worked with over the years.
There will be an informal meet an greet for Winter’s final couple of days. On January 26th and 27th come in and congratulate Winter on her long career, there will also be snacks and goodies.
With her increased amount of free time, Winter plans to spend time with her family. The Winters have three daughters, Sara lives in Ortonville, Anna lives in St. Paul, and Sherry lives in Mountain Lake. They also have three grandsons that all live in Mountain Lake and are 13, 15 and 18 years old.
Winter also is excited about the opportunity to travel with her husband Rodney, who retired from teaching in 2009. There are no concrete plans on any destinations, but they look forward to the opportunity.
January 27 will be the last day of work for Winter. First Avenue Styles will not be the same without the face that has been there for over 30 years, but the business will still continue to serve the St. James community.
