Because of school getting out early this year, the St. James High School Scholarship Assembly was held a month earlier than normal this year. This event was held in the Little Theater at the St. James High School on April 12 at 12:15 p.m.
To open up the event, principal Karla Beck addressed the crowd and seniors. This year there was $75,900 raised for scholarships for the St. James senior class. This number is down a bit from the $86,000 in scholarships raised last year. Even though there was a dip in the amount of money raised, this is still a very large amount for a community the size of St. James. Beck notes that schools in Mankato are proud to raise 30 or 40 thousand dollars, and even though St. James does not boast the businesses that Mankato does, they were able to raise close to double the amount.
