On the night of May 1 at the American Legion, two members were honored for their long standing membership with the American Legion. Dick Bolin and Hubert Branstad have both been members of the American Legion for 70 years now, and are the longest members in the St. James chapter by quite a large margin.

Branstad was originally in the Air Corps and started radio school in South Dakota. After he started school he was shipped off to Madison, Wisconsin and had to start radio school over again. After a short time in Madison he was then shipped to southern Illinois and had to start school once again. At this point the war overseas was coming to an end. At the time the war ended, Branstad was stationed in Mississippi and was discharged.
