The St. James Express ended their season on Wednesday, August 1st after losing 8-2 against Hanska. After being tied 0-0 after two innings the flood gates of runs opened up for Hanska while the Express could- n’t do much to manufacture runs or hits ending the game with only four hits in a 15-2 loss.
The second game of the playoffs was a different story. The Express was the home team even though they played at Truman’s field due to construction at Veterans Field. While they didn’t have a full home field advantage, many of the Express players were not strangers to Truman’s field as they played many games there during their Legion baseball years.
Something that doesn’t happen in baseball too much happened for the Express as every single player in the lineup had a hit. Pinke, Carlson, and Zach Brandts all went 2- 4 and Chase Bottin, John Olsen, Fredin, Peterson,
Collin Nienhaus, and Haugen all collected one hit. After trailing in the game 5-0 after a rough top half of the 6th inning for the Express the Express were able to come back with two outs in the bottom of the 6th The Express were able to score four runs in the bot- tom of the 6th. Carlson started off the rally with a single. Still on first base with two outs Nienhaus came up big with a two out single. Brandts con- tinued the trend with a single of his own and Pinke came up big with a two out double which cleared the bases.
