Last weekend, St. James had its 5th Annual Hunstad Memorial Golf tournament at the South Fork Golf Course. The tournament memorializes Trey and Darin Hunstad.

The memorial golf tournament was originally Darin’s idea after Trey passed, but when Darin passed shortly after, his sister, Kelly Schulte, took on the project and made it a reality.

The golf course is now with new ownership, but the core of the memorial’s purpose, to raise funds for local college students, has been maintained, and the new ownership has been really great to work with, according to Schulte.

The golf tournament raises funds for scholarships for area students, and the funds raised totalled over $20,000.

Funding comes from hole sponsorships, raffle baskets, and the registration fees for the event.

This year, 36 four man teams played, and 144 par- ticipants enjoyed the course and bid on ten raffle bas- kets. The course was completely full, but, ”Its a good problem to have,” said organizer Kelly Schulte, Darin’s sister. “People really support it.”

The event had food provided, and golf carts for par- ticipants provided by the course. Drinks on the course kept golfers happy, and the golfers worked their way through the course, teeing off one group after another.

South Fork Golf club is located off Highway 60, and is planning to add food options to its facilities in coming months, as well as further community events hosted there.
