St. James Auto Salvage has been on First Avenue South for many years. The family business was owned by Brad and Denise Kuebler and now has a new owner Chris Hart.
The story of how Hart became the owner is a interesting one. The previous owner Kuebler and Hart have known each other from the recycling industry and became good friends. One day as Kuebler began thinking about selling the business he approached Hart and asked him if he would be interested in coming to see the salvage yard and see if he would have any interest in becoming the next owner. Hart made the trip from Iowa and decided to make the permanent trip to Minnesota by purchasing the business.
In August once Hart bought the business he moved himself and his family from Iowa to St. James to begin his business in auto parts and scrap metal recycling. Hart says that while the automotive parts business is something new to him he is very familiar with the recycling industry. One of the hidden gems about St. James Auto Salvage is that people have the ability to buy used parts from a variety of different vehicles. This benefits many people because they are able to save money by not having to purchase a new part . Most parts are pulled and ready the same day for you to pick up. Also they offer shipping on most parts. They also offer a variety of used tires and used car batteries for people to purchase which is a huge advantage for people who do not want to purchase new ones. Hart says that they sort through all of the tires and batteries to only sell the good ones. The other aspect of the business is for people to sell them their end of life vehicles. Hart says they are the last stop for many older vehicles. Hart says that they are able to offer the customer very competitive prices for their vehicle picked up or deliverered. St. James Auto Salvage also purchases all other scrap metal material.
