Ever since Kody Hadler was 7 years old the New Prague native dreamed of one day becoming a police officer.

A little over a decade later and that dream became true when he graduated the Police Academy last fall and became a part time police officer with the Welcome/Sherburn Police Department and also worked in home construction.

In a informal ceremony last week at the Law Enforcement Center Hadler was sworn in as the news Police Officer with the St. James Police Department.

Hadler learned about St. James through a few acquaintances and decided that he would apply after visiting the community and realizing that it seemed like a small community that would be a good fit for him.

Even though Hadler never had any family that was in law enforcement he quickly saw what it was like as his neighbors were in law enforcement.

Hadler explained that one of the main reasons why he wanted to become a Police Officer is so he has the opportunity to help different people in different situations.

While Hadler isn’t working he enjoys different outdoor activities and likes to spend as much time outdoors as possible.

Like all new officers Hadler will be riding along with experienced officers as he gets accustomed to the community and looks to learn more about the community and learn about being a Police Officer.

St. James Mayor Gary Sturm said he encourages the community to welcome him to St. James.

“ We look forward to Kody Hadler joining our police department, moving here from New Prague, Minnesota,  and invite everyone to welcome him to St. James.”
