Precinct caucuses were held Tuesday evening so City Council members got right down to business at the Feb. 2nd  meeting. Mayor Sturm called the council together at 5:03 and after approving minutes and consent items moved quickly to new business.
Present at the meeting was Don Krueger, owner of Don’s Tire Inc., in St. James, Lorin Nommensen and two other employees of Don’s. Krueger requested a variance for the property located at 702 4th Ave. S. The variance is to allow the property to be used for commercial purposes. The St. James Planning Commission met on January 26, 2010 and recommended to the council that the variance be granted. Krueger explained his intent to, at some point in time, remove the garage and house from the location and utilize the property for additional parking and to provide better access for his customers as it relates to using the gas pumps. He also stated this should relieve some of the on street parking by his customers. The planning commission received no objections to the variance. Council members by a 5-0  - More information in the Feb. 4 Plaindealer.
