There is a strong potential for “Blizzards” across the country and in Watonwan County today, August 5th. The “Blizzards” will originate from the St. James Dairy Queen and local owner and operator, Curt Rogers and his crew.
On Miracle Treat Day, participating Dairy Queens throughout North America-including the location in St. James-serve up a variety of tasty Blizzard treats. Stores contribute a portion of the proceeds from sales of the favorite treat to Children’s Miracle Network, a national organization committed to raising awareness and funds for children’s hospitals. All funds raised by Dairy Queen in Minnesota and western Wisconsin benefit Gillette Children’s Specialty Healthcare. Last year, Gillette provided care to more than 22,000 children, including 19 from Watonwan County.
As part of this year’s celebration-2010 is also the 25th Birthday of the Dairy Queen Blizzard-Miss America, Caressa Cameron, will make appearances throughout the Twin Cities on August 5th. Cameron, a national goodwill ambassador for Children’s Miracle Network and honorary spokesperson for Miracle Treat Day, will join the DQ Blizzard (A registered trademark) mobile at Gillette’s St. Paul campus between 12:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m. Patients families, staff and the public are invited to stop by and enjoy a free mini Blizzard Treat.
“What tastes better on a warm summer day than ice cream?” says Darlis Clausen, Children’s Miracle Network manager at Gillette. “Miracle Treat Day is a great way for area residents to satisfy their sweet tooth while helping children in their community who have special needs.”
Participating Dairy Queens throughout Minnesota and western Wisconsin raised more than $234,000 for Gillette on Miracle Day Last Year, with proceeds staying in local communities. The Dairy Queen system is one of the Top 10 contributors to Children’s Miracle Network raising more than $81 million since 1984.
