It’s a dirty job, but somebody has to do it! So goes the new wastewater lines going down in the towns of Odin and Ormsby. After a long battle Watonwan County finally won out and a new wastewater treatment plant for the two communities is being built along Highway 4 north and east of Odin. Both of the towns’ wastewater lines will deposit into the treatment plant. The ”lagoon” itself will hardly be noticeable as seen  taken from the edge of the highway in the picture at the left. The prevailing winds should take away any detectable odor from farm residences, the closest one being approximately 3/4 mile west of the treatment facillity.
Work is just beginning in Ormsby and is about two weeks along. Trenching was expected to reach Highway 4 on Friday, August 13th.
Meanwhile over in Odin work was much further along and I don’t believe there is a residential street in the town that is not under construction. Individual wastewater lines to homes will be installed at a future date.
Residents should be patient in waiting for the project to be completed as it is one that was overdue.
Mayor Nick Hager in Ormsby said, “We hope to have the majority of the project, pipes in the ground, and so forth completed by the end of fall and beginning of winter.” Hager added, “Restoration such as grass etc., will come in the spring.”
