The city of Butterfield can now see the fruits of it’s labor with recent improvements to the Fire Hall.
The process started two years ago with a group of people making up a committee called “Building Butterfield Better.” This committee’s goal was to make use of a $10,000 grant from the Southern Minnesota Initiative Foundation (SMIF) by building a place where community members could gather for fellowship.
Instead of trying to build a new place for such a role, the committee decided to remodel the Fire Hall. The Fire Hall already hosted Meals on Wheels, family get-togethers, birthday parties, 4-H meetings, Fire Hall meetings, Boy Scouts, Ladies Auxiliary, local baby and bridal showers, and so much more. Now the community can relish the use of this building since it is all new and improved.
$9,79945 went to the City of Butterfield to remake the old version of the Fire Hall. Buhler Construction did the sheetrocking and Nelson Furniture did the floor. There was enough money to remodel not only the main room of the Hall, but also the kitchen and two bathrooms. Now, the Fire Hall is fully handicap-accessible.
The only thing left to do is a little painting on the outside.
The new Fire Hall was first used the third week of May for a graduation reception. Many more events are sure to follow.
