The AgStar Fund for Rural America recently awarded a $5,000 grant to the Watonwan County Library. The grant will be used to purchase four computers, software and a printer for the library’s technology lab.
This grant allows the library to enhance their existing infrastructure of the technology lab. The library offers citizens free use of the internet and other needed items in their technology lab.
“Access to technology is vital for rural communities and AgStar is proud to award this grant to Watonwan County,” stated Judy Bloemke, fund administrator for AgStar. “This library serves all the County residents and we’re excited to help provide funding so they can offer these much needed resources.”
Since it’s inception in 2001, the AgStar Fund has donated over $2.2 million to organizations working to improve the future of rural America. In the past year they donated money to the St. James Fire Department and to the Watonwan County Fair. They also donated money to the greenhouse at St. James High School.
Applications considered for funding and support must align with the Fund’s mission to “enhance the quality of life and future opportunities for rural residents and their communities” and focus in one of four key areas of support: education, technology, environment, and quality of life.
