At the St. James City Council meeting Tuesday night:
St. James Fire Relief Association gained an increase in retirement funding from $1,700 for one year of service to $1,750. The increase in funding meant a contribution of $23,579 vs. the original $22,079. The City of St. James had budgeted over $25,000 for the funding.
LuAnn Bertsch was appointed to the High Rise Apartment board. This spot was previously held by Nonnie Hanson.
St. James added flexibility to the upcoming election when they approved a measure Tuesday night that allows them to hire additional election judges in case of absences or emergencies. The measure passed unanimously.
The City of Madelia requested that the City of St. James provide service in the area of building inspection due to the hail storm which impacted a number of residents with roof damage. Workers would receive regular wages plus benefits. This is a limited service which can be terminated at any time.  More in the July 22 Plaindealer.
