How many gallons of water does St. James use each year? Well, the City Council members found out at Tuesday evening’s regular meeting. Members received the annual MN DNR-Annual Report of Water Use for the year in all categories totaled a whopping 256,195,089 gallons. “What the public sometimes doesn’t realize,” said City Manager Joe McCabe, “is that we have to pay the DNR for that water.” The total fee returned to the DNR for 2011 was $1,782.04.
In an otherwise very brief City Council Meeting, the City staff recommended to Council Members that bids for the construction of storage building for the Electric department be rejected due to excessive costs and that staff work with the architect to develop an alternative type of building. Council members tabled this recommendation.
A resolution declaring abandoned and surplus property and ordering sale was passed unanimously. The property to be sold is the 1998 Ford Ambulance operated by St. James Ambulance. The new ambulance should be in St. James on Thursday and McCabe said the radio will be installed on Friday. Next week in The Plaindealer we will carry a picture and article about the new ambulance.
A special grant permit was given to Jason Kaehler for an Automobile and Repairable Automobile Store located at 1305 7th Avenue South. The property is owned by Dale and Bette Johnson. The request was in resolution form and adopted by the City Council at the recommendation of the Planning Commission.
The next Local Board of Appeals and Equalization meeting will be April 18, 2012 at 1:00 pm.
The Mayor made two appointments each to the airport rezoning board and a redistricting committee regarding city wards.
