Watonwan County Pheasants Forever is once again recognized as the leading Minnesota chapter for youth activities! On January 16, 2010 Watonwan County PF received the State Pheasants Forever No Child Left Indoors Award for the third consecutive year!
In receiving the award, the chapter is nominated for the National No Child Left Indoors Award. This award will be presented to the chapter at the Watonwan County PF annual banquet in March. The PF No Child Left Indoors initiative is a grassroots movement through PF to get children unplugged from electronics and plugged into the outdoors. This program is very important to PF, because the youth involved with this program are active in the outdoors and in conservation efforts.
The youth program is headed by Dennis Malmgren the President of the chapter and Ed Mays the youth chair of the chapter. The youth program, called the Ringnecks, gives youth the opportunity, not only to hunt in the fall, but to participate in all types of outdoor activities throughout the year. This program also sponsors different outdoor events throughout the year, such as, shooting sports.
Weather permitting, the next activity scheduled for February 6, 2010 will be snow tubing at Mount Kato. If you know a youth that would enjoy participating in outdoor activities and are between the ages of 12-17 please contact Dennis Malmgren at 507.375.8128.
