The Watonwan County Board of Commissioners reconvened on Thursday, August 19th at 8:00 am to get 2011 budget preparations underway. They will continue the budget workshops on Wednesday, August 25th beginning at 8:00am.
Tabled at the first round of budget meetings was any discussion with Sheriff Gary Menssen about the hiring of a new deputy in the Sheriff’s Department. Discussion and questions for Menssen were tabled until the next regular board meeting. Sheriff Menssen strongly expressed his desire to be included in discussions about the Sheriff’s Department in the future. Commissioner John Baerg agreed with Menssen that this should be the case and is the only fair thing to do. Read more in the August 26 Plaindealer.
