David Ralph Goodman, 72, passed away at home in Springfield, Mo. Dec. 29, 2016 from cancer-related complications.

David Ralph Goodman, 72, passed away at home in Springfield, Mo. Dec. 29, 2016 from cancer-related complications. Funeral Mass was Friday, Jan. 6 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Springfield, Mo. Private interment will be at a later date at Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Springfield, Mo. Memorials may be be offered to St. Jude’s, Wounded Warriors or Holy Trinity Church. David’s family encourages anyone over 55 to get annual low-dose lung CT scan, even if they are non-smokers like Dave.

Dave was born Dec. 10, 1944 in Excelsior Springs, Mo. He was united in marriage to Joan S. Morrison on Feb 1, 1964 in Denton, Tex. Dave graduated from Ruskin High School, Kansas City, Mo., in 1962. He enlisted in the USAF in 1966, serving seven years, which included deployment to Kadina AFB Okinawa. While in the service, Dave qualified for Operation Bootstraps and finished his degree in Business Administration from Universiy of Oklahoma. In 1973, Dave became an auditor for Farmland Industries, servicing Minnesota and upper Midwest. In 1976, he was employed as Controller/Credit Manager for Watonwan Farm Service in St. James for 19 years. Dave moved with his family to the Springfield area in 1994 where he was hired by Daniel Trucking as an Accountant. He was employed part-time until his health forced his retirement in May 2016. He was an avid distance runner his whole life and loved RV traveling with his family while exploring the country. Always a big sport fan, especially of his Kansas City teams, he also had a love of cars that go fast, guzzling Dr. Pepper, and playing games with family and friends. His family/friends will remember his witty humor, playful teasing, calm/thoughtful counsel, his goofiness and his good-heart. He will be especially missed by granddaughter Larissa.

Survivors include his wife, Joanie of almost 53 years; three daughters- Susan Heimer of Berkeley Calif., Gabrielle (GE) Holland of Springfield, Mo. and granddaughter Larissa, and Lesley (Joe) Bremm of Arroyo Grande, Calif.; his mother, Jacquelyn Goodman; brothers, Jeff Goodman and Joe (Lisa) Goodman, all of Kansas City, Mo.; sister-in-law, Julie (Tim) Donnette of Bedford Tex.; and brother-in-law, Craig (Mimi) Morrison of Eagle River, Alaska. Preceding him in death were his father, Ralph Goodman (2014) and his sister, Marie Reach (2008).
