Vivian Bernice Monsen, 96, of St. James, died June 15, 2017, at Laurels Peak Rehabilitation Center in Mankato.

Vivian Bernice Monsen, 96, of St. James, died June 15, 2017, at Laurels Peak Rehabilitation Center in Mankato. Visitation will be Monday, June 19 from 1 to 2 p.m. at the United Methodist Church, St. James. Service will be held at the church on Monday at 2 p.m. The clergy will be Rev. Clinton Firstbrook, III. Interment will be at the Mt. Hope Cemetery in St. James. Arrangements are with the Sturm Funeral Home in St. James. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.sturmfh.com.

Vivian was born to Floyd and Clara (Madson) Hammond on Aug. 14, 1920 in Madelia. She attended School District 47 and Madelia High School, graduating in 1939. During WWII she worked at OPA rationing board. Vivian married Norman Monsen on Dec. 27, 1944. She worked for the St. James Plaindealer for eight years. Vivian and Norman farmed in St. James and enjoyed spending their winters together in Arizona.

Vivian will be greatly missed by daughter, Norma (Gary) Miest and son, Wayne (Karen) Monsen; grandchildren: Ryan (Miranda) Miest, Tanner (Rachel) Miest, Trista Miest, Jonathan (Jenny) Monsen, Lisa (Jeff) Boman; great-grandchildren: Julien, Davis, and namesake Vivian Miest, and Josie Monsen; sister, Ettie Palmer; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by husband; parents; sisters: Florence Woese, Mildred Lemke, Maurine Hage; and brother, Wayne Hammond.
