Bernita Kuehl 97, was called to her eternal rest on Sunday evening, May 20, 2018 at Mayo Clinic Health System in St. James. A Celebration of Life Service was held on Saturday, May 26, at Evangelical Covenant Church in Trimont. Burial was held in Cedar Hill Cemetery, rural Trimont. Bernita Catharine Luehr was born to Gerhart and Emma (Hormann) Luehr in Fox Lake Township, Martin County, on Sept. 20, 1920. She graduated from Triumph-Monterey High School in 1938. She then attended a business school in Minneapolis. Bernita married Harold Kuehl on Aug. 25, 1940 in Welcome, Minnesota. After their marriage they farmed in Martin County till 1955. They then spent three years working in California and returned to Minnesota in 1958 to raise poultry and operate a feed and seed store in Ormsby. Upon Harold’s death in 1977, Bernita moved to St. James, where she worked in the office of St. James Bus Service as well as driving school bus for 45 years. Faith and music ministered to Bernita. She and Harold traveled to Israel twice, and she was involved in rolling bandages for Missions for many years. She also enjoyed quilting, gardening, embroidery work and word find books.  

Bernita is survived by her children: Peter (Jan) Kuehl of St. James, Philip (Laura) Kuehl of Delano, and Paul (Marcy) Kuehl of Duluth; five grandchildren: Kristine, Zachary, Rachel, Eli and Genevieve; eleven great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews; and other relatives. Bernita was preceded in death by her parents, brother, Clarence; husband, Harold; daughter, Kathy; and other relatives. Blessed be the memory of Bernita Kuehl.
