Carol M. Bratland, 76, of St. James, was called to her eternal rest on Sunday morning, Oct. 28, 2018 at the Luther Memorial Home in Madelia. Viewing is one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday. A Celebration of Life Service for Carol will be 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 2, at the United Methodist Church in St. James, with Rev. Clint Firstbrook III officiating. Burial will be in St. Olaf Lutheran Cemetery in rural Odin. Messages of sympathy may be sent to the family on line at www.kramerfuneralhome.com
Carol Marie Ayres was born on Aug. 26, 1942 to Leo and Elizabeth (Barge) Ayres in St. James. She was baptized and confirmed in 1956 at the United Methodist Church in St. James. She received her education in St. James Public School and later graduated with the class of 1961. On March 17, 1962, she was united in marriage to Kenneth Jerome Bratland in St. James. After their marriage they farmed in Long Lake Township, rural St. James until moving to St. James in 2011. In 2012, Carol was employed at Pleasant View Nursing Home. She was a member of United Methodist Church, where she served on it’s board, UMW and served on various committees and fixed coffee at the church. Carol helped out at the Bloodmobile, Meals on Wheels and in the Food Shelf.
She is survived by her husband, Kenneth Bratland of St. James; son, Trent (Laura) Bratland of St. James; three grandchildren: Nicole (Levi) Shemon of Cottonwood, Kariann Masek and fiancée, Juan Avalos of St. James, and Shanon Bratland and Michael Holtz of St. James; two great-grandchildren: Arlyn Shemon and Rose Holtz; sister, Deanna (Will) Anderson of Hot Springs, Arkansas; sister-in-law, Muriel (Merril) Johnson of Osage, Iowa; nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends. Carol was preceded in death by her parents, Leo and Elizabeth Ayres; brother, Floyd Blackstad; sister, Sylvia Dirkson; grandparents, William and Mary Barge and Lena Ayres; step mother; Harriet and other relatives.
