Jacquelyn (Jackie) Rae Bloomquist was born on February 9, 1948 to Reynold and Alice Bloomquist in St. James, Minnesota. She was baptized into the Lutheran faith at East Svedahl Lutheran Church. Her childhood years were spent between St. James, Gruver, Iowa and Estherville, Iowa. She was confirmed on October 7, 1961 at Augustana Lutheran Church in St. James. She graduated from St. James High School in 1966. After high school she attended Mankato Business School and upon graduation went to work at Lutheran Brotherhood in Minneapolis.
On October 18, 1969 she married Randall (Randy) Mensing at Augustana Lutheran in St. James. They moved to Hastings in 1970 where she worked as a legal secretary until Jeffrey (Jeff) Randall was born on June 19, 1973. In 1977 they moved to Broomfield, Colorado. On January 26, 1978 Juliett (Julie) Randelyn was born.
Jackie’s priorities were Jeff and Julie and she did not work out of the home until 1984 when she started part time as the secretary at Lutheran Church of Hope in Broomfield until 1993. In 1996, she and Randy moved to Ponce, Puerto Rico for two and one half years with Randy’s work. They returned in early 1999 and in the fall of that year she was diagnosed with ovarian cancer.
Jackie worked with multiple volunteer groups in support of Jeff and Julie during their school years and was a leader in church activities during this time period. She and friends started the American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life activity in Broomfield in 2000. Her hope and dream was for a miracle to be found to eliminate the disease for her and all others that fight the disease. She was active in this activity through 2008.
In 2005, she was recognized with the Heart of Broomfield Community Service Award. Being part of a small business was her other dream for years. In 2006, Jackie worked with three other ladies in St. James to start the Encore Coffee Cafe.
