Nathan Askevold, 52, of rural Butterfield died on Sunday, July 18, 2010 at McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
A public graveside service will be held on Saturday, July 24, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Olaf Lutheran Cemetery in rural Odin with Pastor Carla Reierson officiating. There will be a time of fellowship right after the graveside service in the church basement.
Visitation will be held on Friday, July 23, 2010 from 5:00 p.m. until 7 p.m. at the Kramer Family Funeral Home in Trimont.
Nathan Shawn Askevold was born on November 29, 1957 to Erling and Erna (Heppner) Askevold in Mountain Lake, Minnesota. He attended school in Butterfield. He then was employed as a Government Grain Inspector, then at Ormsby Ag Systems until being employed at Sherr-Tumico in St. James and also operated a Gun Shop. He then was employed at the (DNR) out of the Pipestone area until returning home to farm and operated Nathan Askevold Machine and Welding Shop and his Gun Shop on the farm. He was noted for his precision welding, ability to fix things and his craftsmanship in making guns and repairing them.
Nathan was a member of NRA, Odin Sportmans Club and Pheasants Forever and enjoyed duck and goose hunting. One of his life adventures was going Elk hunting in Colorado where he took an Elk with his bow and arrow.
Survivors include his mother, Erna Askevold of rural Butterfield, MN; two sisters, Sharon (Jim) Beck of Fallon, NV and Judy Askevold of St. Louis Park, MN; brother, Allen (Claudia) Askevold of Sturgeon Lake, MN; nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles and other relatives and friends. He will greatly be missed by his loyal companion, his German Shorthair dog, “Hans.”
Nathan was preceded in death by his father, Erling Askevold; an infant brother and relatives.
