Vernelle Kohn, 74, of St. James, Minnesota died on Tuesday, June 30, 2009 at the St. James Medical Center in St. James, Minnesota.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 3, 2009 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in St. James with Reverend Martin Lopahs officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery in St. James.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 2, 2009 from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Sturm Funeral Home in St. James and will continue for one hour prior to the services at the church on Friday.
Vernelle Caroline Sternberg was born on March 1, 1935 to Walter and Lydia (Niemeier) Sternberg in St. James, Minnesota. She grew up in the South Branch area attending St. John’s Parochial School and graduated from St. James High School.
On December 1, 1956 she was united in marriage to Henry F. Kohn at St. John’s in South Branch. She worked at First National Bank for several years before she and Hank began their family.
Vernelle was active in her church first at St. John’s then at St. Paul’s in St. James, serving in the Ladies Aid, Evening Guild and choir. She also was a member of the VFW Auxiliary and Legion Auxiliary She enjoyed sewing, gardening, bowling, traveling, ceramics, water color painting and was a member of two card clubs. She was also a sports fan and loved the Twins, Vikings and St. James Saints.
Survivors include her husband Hank of St. James, MN; daughter and son-in-law, Janelle and John Munsterman of St. James, MN and their children Erik, Adam and Danielle; son and daughter-in-law, Thomas and Sue Kohn of Red Wing, MN and their children Logan Bender and Mary Bender; sisters, Luella (Roland) Stradtman of St. James, MN, Marjorie (Carl) Vogt of Truman, MN and Marlys (Kent) Kloepping of Tucson, AZ, sister-in-law, Anna Mae King of Waconia, MN and numerous nieces and nephews.
Vernelle was preceded in death by her son, Michael in 1997 and her parents.
