Super Bowl Sunday is a time to have fun

Super Bowl Sunday is upon us, February 5th to be exact.

First snowfall catches us off guard

The first “real” snowfall in Minnesota on January 20, 2011. Imagine that! Who would have ever guessed that it would come now, and when you think about it, not all that much either.

New Year’s Eve and the Passage of Time

It is so hard to believe that in just 3 days it will be 2012. I was born in 1947 so that means I have seen a few New Year’s Days come and go.

“In the fullness of time ...”

“But when the time had fully come, God sent His Son, born of a woman, born under law, to redeem those under law, that we might receive the full rights of sons.”

Merry Christmas

I guess that it is that time of year again to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

How will you celebrate Christmas?

It is so hard to believe that Christmas is soon to be here. When we were kids it seemed to take for ever for December 25th and now it all happens and is over so quickly!

Property tax statements are no surprise

I’ve asked a couple of people if they have received their 2012 Property Tax Statements.

An amazing abundance in our nation

We have just celebrated one of my favorite holidays, Thanksgiving. I am sure many of would say we ate too much. I certainly did!

It’s not about the meal

“Rejoice.... I will say it again: Rejoice!..but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving.” -Philippians 4: 4-5

Tis the season ... deer season that is!

I’ve been a little disappointed that we haven’t had any response to our photo call outs for deer hunting and pheasant hunting.

The Vikings stadium????

I am going to set out to write this opinion and confess up front that to this point I haven’t cared one way or the other.

When a Veteran leaves the job

This was sent to me some time ago just wanted to share it this week for Veteran’s Day.

It’s not too early to start thinking about giving to others

Sue Renz from Women of Today just stopped by my office to give me a press release about the Christmas Sharing Tree program.

Dreading campaigning and election year

I suppose I should be thankful that we live in a nation where we get to pick and choose our leaders every 2, 4 and 6 years.

Tell us what you think about “Occupy Wall Street”

The “Occupy Wall Street” rallies continued this past weekend with arrests in Washington D.C where 19 people were hauled away by Supreme Court Policemen.

Pro-active, smart programs needed in Watonwan County

Once in a blue moon, government does come up with something that works- a program that is highly effective in terms of results and at the same time is cost effective to the taxpayer who foots the bill for all of it.

Is the media “hyping” economic woes

In the last two weeks I have personally known three people, unemployed for a lengthy period of time, find very good paying jobs.

A few of my favorite things ...

Most of us remember the song from the musical  “The Sound of Music” about Maria’s “favorite things...”

Thinking about Fall

The change in the weather and cooler temperatures certainly has got all of us thinking about Fall.

As always, citizens have to fill the gaps as cities prepare budgets

It is preliminary number crunching time for most cities and counties across the state of Minnesota.
