City Council members received good news at Tuesday night’s council meeting. Because the Wastewater Project has been completed and has come at less than anticipated, dollar wise, a “wishlist” of final upgrades will be added on bringing a total upgrade to the plant. Council members were told by a Stantec representative, formerly Bonetroo, that the city had available $144,000 in loan dollars remaining. This would enable them to purchase 2 slush pumps, 1 grit pump, a clarifying shimmer and lighting at the entrance to the facility. Total cost of this equipment and installation is expected to be $132,700.00. Council approved the upgrades. In most cases the pumps are at least twenty years old and need replacing. One pump does not work.
In other business before the City Council, a gift of $1,000.00 was received from the St. James Lions Club for the Community Building Kitchen fund.
Earlier City Council approved the participation of St. James in the 2012 Minnesota City Participation Program. This brings to the community $100,000.00 to qualified 1st time home buyers in St. James. “Last year the program was not used because of other more favorable programs,” said EDA Molly Westman. “This year may be a different story.” “Rates and more difficult qualifications for other programs may make this one more attractive,” said Mayor Gary Sturm. Members approved the program. There  is no fee to the city to take part in MCPP.
A motion was made and approved to have Eide Bailly LLP perform the 2011 City Audit and a single audit. The 2011 audit will cost $19,500.00 and the single audit will cost $3,500.00.
A pre-feasibility with consulting engineering firm Bolton and Menk for the re-do of Highway4/30 project was approved.
