Mayo Clinic Health System today announced a $10,000 donation to Southern Minnesota Initiative Foundation (SMIF) to help support relief efforts for the Feb. 3 fire in downtown Madelia.
“Our hearts go out to the business owners and the entire Madelia community who have been impacted by the devastating fire,” says Greg Kutcher, M.D., president and CEO of Mayo Clinic Health System in the Southwest Minnesota region. “Our efforts in support of those impacted by this disaster are a natural outgrowth of our commitment to providing solutions and hope to people in our communities and throughout the region.”
Among the businesses affected were restaurants, a dentistry, an upholstery shop and the Culligan store, which was bulldozed down to stop the fire from spreading to the north side of town.
"In past years, when tragedy strikes our southern Minnesota region, we have worked with partners to provide business recovery grants," explains Tim Penny, Southern Minnesota Foundation Initiative President and CEO. "We are prepared to do the same for the Madelia community in the aftermath of their terrible loss. The Southern Minnesota Initiative Foundation is grateful to Mayo their grant of $10,000, which will go to a grant fund to help the eight businesses affected by the fire. We’re hopeful that other businesses will also contribute to this fund.”
