Over a year removed from the devastating fire that destroyed downtown Madelia, Minnesota Governor Mark Dayton  signed into law legislation that provides state aid to the City of Madelia. The new law allows Madelia to receive $1.4 million and Watonwan County nearly $300,000 in grants that can be used for disaster recovery, infrastructure, and reimbursement for equipment and personnel costs and property tax abatement.

This this law finally being signed, the Madelia community can rest easy, knowing that their construction projects that have been ongoing for a year, some have already finished, will be funded by the state. The challenge now will be putting the disaster behind the community and moving forward with their new downtown.
