DeWayne “Duke” Hanson, age 72, of Glencoe, Minnesota, passed away Tuesday, December 19, 2017, at Glencoe Regional Health Services Long Term Care in Glencoe, Minnesota. Funeral services were held Friday, December 22, 2017, 11:00 A.M. at Christ Lutheran Church in Glencoe, Minnesota, with interment following at the Glencoe City Cemetery in Glencoe, Minnesota.

DeWayne “Duke” Jon Hanson was born on June 25, 1945, in St. James, Minnesota. He was the son of Roy and Elizabeth (Malmgren) Hanson. Duke was baptized as an infant and was later confirmed in his faith as a youth, both at St. James Catholic Church in St. James. He attended school in St. James and was a graduate of St. James High School class of 1964.
Duke served in the Army Reserves during the Vietnam War era from 1963 to 1969 and attended active duty training at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri in 1964.
On December 6, 1975, Duke was united in marriage to Terri Bruns at Christ Lutheran Church in Glencoe, Minnesota. Duke and Terri resided in Faribault, Hibbing, Grand Forks, and later moved to Glencoe in 1988. They were blessed with four children, Richard, Michael, Jennifer, and Patrick. They shared 42 years of marriage together.
Duke was a part time police officer in Glencoe and was one of the first EMTs in the Glencoe area in the early ’70s. Duke worked at Harpel Brother’s Inc. and Kevin’s Auto in Glencoe selling vehicles until he retired in 2006. Duke was a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Glencoe. He was also a member of the Glencoe Lions Club #29907, the Rotary Club of Glencoe, District 5950, Glencoe American Legion Post 95, the Glencoe Area Chamber of Commerce, the Park Board in Glencoe, and was Chairman of Glencoe Days for many years. His children lovingly referred to him as Mr. Glencoe and Duke never shied away from a microphone.
Duke was very proud of Glencoe and volunteered whenever he could. He organized bike-a-thons and called Bingo for the Lions Club. He was also chairman of R.O.C.K. (Reaching Our Communities Kids). Duke also enjoyed watching Nascar and was an avid Vikings Fan. He thrived in the Texas sun on the beaches of South Padre with his wife Terri during the winters. He cherished the time spent with his family, grandchildren and friends.
Duke passed away Tuesday, December 19, 2017, at Glencoe Regional Health Services Long Term Care in Glencoe, at the age of 72 years after a short illness. Blessed be his memory.
Duke is survived by his wife, Terri Hanson of Glencoe, MN; children, Richard Hanson and his significant other, Amber Brusven of Glencoe, MN, Michael Hanson of Glencoe, MN, Jennifer Urista and her husband, Jason of Minneapolis, MN, Patrick Hanson and his wife, Tosanna of Glencoe, MN; grandchildren, Braxton Hanson, Logan Hanson, Hannah Hanson, Hailey Hanson, Julia Hanson, Maren Urista, and Ellie Urista; nephews, nieces, other relatives and many friends.
Duke is preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Elizabeth Hanson; and step-father, James Pauley.
