Marlene Fastenau, 64, of St. James passed away on Sunday, July 15, 2018 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m., Saturday, July 21, at St. James Catholic Church in St. James with Father Timothy Hall as celebrant. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in St. James. Visitation will be Friday at Sturm Funeral Home, in St. James, a rosary at 3:30 p.m. visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. and will continue one hour before mass at church on Saturday. Marlene Rathman was born Nov. 22, 1953 in St. James, the daughter of Sylvester and Margie (Schiller) Rathman. Marlene attended Catholic school through the eighth grade and graduated from St. James High School in 1973. She worked as a CNA at Pleasant View Nursing Home for several years. On Nov. 8, 1993 she married Richard Fastenau. Marlene ran a home day care for many years. In 2008, she became a grandma and loved every minute of that. Marlene did some home health care but devoted most of her time to her family and dogs. She enjoyed camping and tending flowers. She was a member of St. James Catholic Church and the Catholic Daughters.

She is survived by her husband, Richard; daughter, Hillary (William) Alexander; and many step-children; two grandchildren: Kendra and Adam Alexander and many step-grandchildren, siblings: Gene (Caroline) Rathman, Ray (Janet) Rathman, Jim (Pat) Rathman, Larry (Marion) Rathman, Don Rathman, Dick (Fay) Rathman, Sal (Berdell) Rathman, Phyllis (Francis) Wagner, Paula (Conrad) DeJong; and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, grandson Dylan Alexander, brothers: Edward, Douglas, David, John; sister, Chris and several nieces and nephews.
