Thea Oman qualified by placing second in the 100 yard freestyle with a time of 55.59 in Warroad.
Thea Oman (Sr.) could not break through in the 200 yard freestyle, but avenged her third place finish by taking second in the 100 yard freestyle at the Section 8A Meet to advance to the state swimming meet.
Oman qualified for the section finals a day earlier in the prelims when the senior placed second in the 100 yard freestyle (55.73) and third in the 200 yard freestyle (2:03.86). Oman’s 200 time served as a record-breaking swim in Crookston history.
On the following day for the finals, Oman swam a time of 2:05.12 in the 200 yard freestyle to place third and just missed out on a state qualification. With only one more chance to move on, Oman took second in the 100 yard freestyle with 55.59 and edged out the third place swimmer by .05 seconds.
Other finalists included Madison Hoiland (Fr.) in the 100 yard breaststroke and Thea Oman, Hoiland, Elizabeth Erdman (Jr.) and Claire (Fr.) Oman in the 200 yard medley relay. Hoiland placed eighth for the breaststroke at 1:15.36 and the relay took sixth with a time of 2:06.40.
In the finals, Hoiland moved up three spots and placed fifth while shaving over a second off her prelims time at 1:14.31. The medley relay team did not place after facing a disqualification, but would have finished in sixth place.
