Cedel Store opens as newest clothing and cosmetics store in downtown St. James
After spending the summer months in the VFW parking lot selling their merchandise out of tents, Monica Delgado Garcia and Humberto Cedillo opened up the newest clothing store in St. James, the Cedel Store, on Saturday afternoon in downtown St. James.
The couple started selling clothing items and other goods this summer out of their home for a few weeks. In just a short time, they had already set up shop downtown under tents.
"We asked for a permit to do the tents because where we live there's not a lot of people," said Delgado Garcia. "We got our permits and stayed in the parking lot for a couple of weeks and it was very good for us."
With cold winter months soon approaching, they knew they had to find a place to continue their business, as being outside in Minnesota winters for an extended period of time isn't much of an option.
"To be outside is not an idea when winter is coming. So we either had to stop or look for something else."
Cedel Store is the second business to start in the parking lot and move into a brick and mortar store this year. In February, Lupe's Mexican Grille moved from a food truck into their current location along First Avenue South.
Delgado Garcia and Cedillo wanted to open up their own business from the start.
"It's pretty difficult because you have to put a lot of money into it. You have to invest some money to buy clothes, buy shoes, and buy makeup. Everything."
Inside the Cedel Store, clothing for men, women, and a large selection of kids' clothing is available, as are cosmetic items.
"We have a lot of kids stuff," said Delgado Garcia. "When I go to the store, I about my kids first, then myself. People stop by and see that there's nothing for their kids they won't buy as much."
For now, Cedel Store will be open from 12-7:00 p.m. on weekdays and 12-8:00 p.m. on weekends. Store hours may change in the future as the store realizes what its busiest hours are.
