Senior Giovanni Alvarado joined an elite group of St. James wrestlers on Saturday when he picked up his 100 career win for the Saints.
Sophomore Zach Brandts scored 26 points Tuesday night, but it was not enough to overcome a more balanced attack by Martin County West, and the Saints lost their third game in five days by a final score of 73 to 65.
The Saints gymnastic team and fans paid homage to the team’s seniors on the final home meet of the year when the Saints hosted Luverne on Tuesday night.

The Saints took on a tougher opponent last Thursday night when Fairmont-MCW came calling. St. James was ready for the challenge, and the Saints earned a solid 54 to 20 victory over the Red Bulls.
The Saints gymnasts hosted Worthington on Tuesday night with Worthington winning the meet by a team score of 132.825 to 110.975.
The Saints took a long road trip on a blustery Saturday to Pipestone. The boys basketballers started out hot by quickly jumping out to a 10-2 lead.

Sports has many milestones. They often are markers indicating greatness and significant career accomplishments. Coach Gene Hildebrandt’s 450th win as St. James’ head wrestling coach is one of those memorable milestones. By any measure 450 career wins is a big number and it compares favorably to other sports milestones. Major league pitchers who have won more than 450 games is a category of one - Cy Young had 511 wins and he last pitched in 1911.
Gymnasts lose close meet to Redwood Valley
The Saints hosted Redwood Valley on Tuesday night and lost a closely contested meet by a team score of 117.750 to 113.300.
Before a large and boisterous home crowd, the St. James wrestlers rolled over the New Ulm Eagles 67 to 7 on Tuesday night.
