TZD Seminar notes rise in traffic crash fatalities in Minnesota
Minnesota Toward Zero Deaths (TZD), an organization that was designed to study the causes of traffic fatalities and serious injuries, and work to pursue public support of traffic safety as a priority, hosted a seminar at Prairie’s Edge Casino and Resort in Granite Falls last week.

Small Schools Gather for Big South Conference Track Meet
Saturday morning, May 14th, kicked off the BSC track meet with the Small School division meeting in Windom. Teams included Blue Earth Area, Jackson County Central, Luverne, Pipestone Area, Redwood Valley, St. James Area, and Windom Area.
Saints accomplish much in tune-up to Conference Meet
The SJA track teams made a trip west to Windom for a quadrangular meet on May 12th and returned with a long list of placewinners that included several individual champs and relays both. The meet also gave the squads familiarity with a track where they would return two days later for the Big South Conference Small Schools meet. “It was a great meet to have our young teams get times and try new events,” said Head Coach Scott Allen.

Storm proves only way to stop Bowers in 4-0 SJA victory at Windom
The Windom Eagles proved to be a tougher opponent after an early 14-1 Saints win but were still unable to find a remedy for Addie Bowers, either in the pitching circle or in the batter’s box during a 4-0 road win on May 12th. Due to a strong storm from the west, the game was called after five innings but not before Bowers struck out 13/16 batters during her no-hitter and smacked a pair of home runs to the power alley in right centerfield.
St. James Saints went 3 for 5 with a week full of matches
St. James tennis has started out the season raking in the wins.
SJA splits doubleheader at Pipestone with extra-inning victory
An exciting finish to a long game, after a long road trip, provided a 9-8 final as the Saints claimed the win with a Sonny Heil game-winning RBI in the bottom of the 10th inning. Pipestone grabbed a 10-4 win in the opening game but the Saints were the home team in the last segment of the doubleheader and prevailed after three scoreless innings to cap the win.
Butterfield City Council names Jeff Durheim as interim member
Butterfield City Council met for its monthly meeting on Tuesday, May 10. During the meeting the appointed an interim council member, audit report and an update on city pipes.

Senior Rotary award winners
On Tuesday morning the St. James Rotary Club held its student awards breakfast at the high school.

SJA Doubles Up Luverne In Matchup Of Top Squads
Undefeated 3AA power Luverne came to Dennis Johnson Field in St. James with a 10-0 record and left on the short end of 4-2, 9-6 scores. SJA rallied late in each game to support knockout pitching by Addie Bowers who rang up 33 strikeouts during a pair of complete-game efforts. “Overall we were calm, composed and focused throughout the DH,” said Head Coach Sam Baumgartner. “This team just works hard, is determined, and shows resiliency more and more as the season progresses.”
