SJA Wrestlers Face Tough Competition at Redwood Riot Tournament
With nearly three dozen teams, and nasty weather, to contend with on December 17th, the St. James Area wrestlers picked up valuable experience at Redwood Falls. Varsity and JV tournaments progressed simultaneously with Kollin Anderson, Deborah Velasco, and Eva Romsdahl all placing high.
Local Trackster Jumps at Chance to Compete Collegiately
After a top-ten finish in the 2022 State Track Meet, St. James Area triple jumper Gavin Firchau cemented his standing as a top competitor in track and field. On December 12, the senior signed a letter to continue his competition next fall as a member of the track and field program at Buena Vista University.
Wrestling Opportunities Expand for Female Wrestlers in Minnesota
St. James Area Saints wrestling is building back a storied program but a portion of those numbers are part of a new tradition. At the recent tourney in Redwood Deborah Velasco, Eva Romsdahl, Arlene Melendez, and Neveah Hanson all earned a place on the awards platform.
State-Ranked Opponents Challenge Saints Wrestlers in Triangular
St. James Area made a quick turnaround after the Redwood Riot with a triangular at Fairmont on December 20th that included Fairmont/Martin County West and United South Central/Maple River.
Sodeman’s Torrid Scoring Sets Saints up for Win Over Wolverines
St. James basketball fans made a return trip to Comfrey on December 20th, this time to watch the girls basketball team notch a victory over Mt. Lake Area-Comfrey by a score of 66-39. The first half belonged to Taylor Sodeman, scoring 21 points, and Journey Swanson drained four three-pointers in the final half to maintain the momentum.
Winter Carnival Dates for 2023 have been decided
The 2022 Winter Carnival Committee is pleased to announce that the dates for the 2023 Winter Carnival will be from December 4th through December 10th, 2023. The twelve days of Christmas in 2022 will be packed into the seven days of 2023. The committee anticipates that the format for events in 2023 will be like 2022.

There is something to be said about a community whose members come together to support one another, whether in times of need, desperation or celebration. We are a part of a family with roots that stem from your community and have felt your love and compassion for many years. Today we write from a place of gratitude to those who continue to support our family in so many ways. This past year we set out a goal to start a scholarship in honor of Natalie Nelson (Winkelman) and thanks to many of you, this scholarship was given life this past April.
