Home Opener is Seesaw Affair, GFW Escaping With 73-69 Decision
Friday night lights were inside the St. James Area Event Center on December 2nd, hosting the boys basketball opener against Gibbon- Fairfax-Winthrop. The Saints mounted a charge before halftime and held a lead late but the visitors made the baskets down the stretch.

Danceline Season Enjoys Busy Start
The St. James Area Saintettes schedule included the opener at home and a trip to Cannon Falls two days later. Six teams competed at the home invite on December 1st and the team traveled to Cannon Falls on Saturday, December 3rd.
Sharp Shooting Saints Wrap Up Road Win Over Panthers
Balanced scoring, led by Anthony Sletta and Brennan Kern, paved the way for a 73-55 win over New Richland-Hartland-Ellendale-Geneva. Strong advantages with free throws, fouls, and three-pointers were key factors to even the season record at 1-1.

Gymnastics Competes at Jackson, Prepares for Home Invitational on December 10th
The young St. James Area gymnastics team began the season with a meet against Jackson County Central on Thursday, December 1st. Upcoming events include traveling to Gustavus Adolphus College on December 8th and hosting an invitational tournament this coming Saturday, the 10th.

Plenty of Reasons Make Him the Voice of Reason
Last Friday night the St. James Area Event Center was the center of considerable energy as the basketball season got underway. A new head coach and new players finding their way were accompanied by a new voice behind the microphone, Mike Shupe.

Rosie’s quilt goes to long-time relay participant
On Nov. 17, the Watonwan County Relay for Life hosted an Hour of Hope event. A part of the event was the drawing for Rosie’s quilt which was made with 30 relay shirts, including one from the first relay in 1998.

Madelia Health Welcome New Foundation Executive Director in New Location
Madelia, Minn. – The Madelia Health Foundation Board of Directors has named Allie Kiecker as the new Foundation Executive Director for Madelia Health. Also, the Foundation office has moved to a new location just off of the Madelia Health main campus at 232 1st St SE, sharing the site with the Home Care Department office. The new location will provide easier access for Foundation donors.

Nursing strike avoided
Minnesota Nursing Association and a group of Minnesota’s larger hospitals, Essentia Health, Fairview, and Allina are three of the hospital involved with the possible agreement. Nurses at said hospitals were threatening to strike over wages and work environments.
