January 2025

Good comes with bad
Life depending where you are in tends to throw curve balls or just straight strikes at you. (Look at me not even a sports writer throwing in some sports analogies). As most people, that has been my and Dillon’s life on and off since last April when he and his brother started the process of moving their mom into a memory care facility.

It seems like “identity” is on everyone’s mind today. We hear warnings on the TV of how simple thieves are able to steal someone’s identity. The TV announcers tell us that the only way we can keep from having it stolen is to subscribe to their service. (Perhaps I watch too much late night TV.)

Girls win section and Johnson qualifies for state
The 9th Grade League Qualifier was held in Jackson on January 25th and Beck Johnson earned a trip to the state tournament while the St. James-Madelia girls team placed 1st out of 15 teams.

Saints limit Jaguars down stretch for 70-56 win
The St. James Area girls earned a non-conference victory over Granada-Huntley-East Chain/Truman/Martin Luther at home on January 27th. The lucky number was 21 as Madelyn Malmgren led the team with 21 points and GHEC/T/ML was held to 21 points in the final half.

Saints take care of tall order against Giants
LeSueur-Henderson brought a lineup with plenty of height advantage but St. James Area adjusted in the final half en route to a 58-56 victory. The non-conference match-up took place on January 25th and Wyatt Haler’s hot shooting sparked the 2nd half comeback.
KNUJ player of week features St. James connections
Saturday mornings are reserved for Player of the Week interviews on KNUJ 860/SAM 107.3 and the January 25th broadcast connected with St. James in a couple of ways. Talyn Tande was named Wrestler of the Week and the Boys Basketball selection had SJHS roots.
SJM girls impress at Rochester century tourney
With the younger wrestlers at the 9th Grade League Qualifier, the rest of the St. James-Madelia girls wrestlers competed at the Rochester Century HS on January 25th. Ellie Romsdahl, Izzy Swanson, and Luella Beckendorf all earned 2nd place during the competition.
