Talyn Tande punches his ticket to state
The Section 3A Individual Tournament ran its course on February 22nd at the SJHS Event Center and Talyn Tande earned a ticket to the State Class A tourney. The senior captured 1st place in the 145 pound bracket with a late takedown and will compete at the Xcel Center on February

Cardinals trip Saints in playoff tilt
Holding within a bucket at halftime at 38-35, St. James Area saw Redwood Valley pull away in the 2nd half for a 76-61 victory in the 3AA South Subsection playoffs on February 21st. Ending her career with a flourish, Madelyn Malmgren led in scoring with 19 points and added to her Saints rebounding record with 18 boards.

Saints clip Eagles finish regular season
St. James Area finished their regular season, and conference schedule, with a convincing 91-76 victory at New Ulm on February 24th. Brennan’s 27 points led a quartet of double figure scorers that included John Boelke, Wyatt Haler, and Sawyer Olson.

Saints add win over Knights
St. James Area capped their home portion of the regular season with an 82-64 victory over Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s on February 20th. A red-hot 2nd half by Wyatt Haler led the Saints to a comfortable victory in the nonconference contest.

Tande adds state berth to 100 career wins milestone
The 2025 Section 3A tournaments will be extra memorable for SJM senior wrestler Talyn Tande, earning career win 100 at the Section Team tourney on February 13th and a trip to State at the Section Individual Tournament on the 22nd.

Davilla is latest 100 match winner
A bittersweet tournament for St. James-Madelia’s Noel Davilla included a close miss for a trip to state and also career victory #100. Both situations occurred at the Section 3A Individual Tournament on February 22nd.

Take STEM home with St. James Library new STEM Kits
Introducing kids to STEM at an early age has been happening in St. James for a few years now at Northside Elementary and 4-H. The St. James Library is the newest place in town for kids to get into STEM with its new STEM Kits. Assistant Director Melissa Haseman found out about a grant through the State Library System, which helps libraries circulate STEM Kits. St. James recently received a grant from The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) to create and circulate its own STEM Kits.
City council amends nuisance ordinance
The St. James City Council met on Tuesday, Feb, 18. The council approved an ordinance change to the public nuisance ordinances. At the beginning of 2024, the city revised the public nuisance ordinance ordinances since then the city found an area in need of language change. The area of the ordinance in need of language change is section C2 of Authority to Obey and Remedy, what it says now is to obtain a search warrant to enter the property. The city wants to convert the language to a court order to enter the property.

Kids celebrate 100 days of school
Students at Northside Elementary, St. Paul’s Lutheran School, and Butterfield-Odin celebrated their 100th day of school on February 11. Students at Northside and St. Paul’s celebrated by having fun with counting activities. At Butterfield-Odin Mrs. Becker’s kindergarten class had a visit from Grandma Becker.
Deuces Wild Dueling Pianos coming to St. James
The St. James Chamber of Commerce will be hosting Deuces Wild Dueling Pianos on Saturday, April 12 at 225 Event Center. Tickets are being sold at Pioneer Bank and True Value, or online at Deuces Wild.
