Bonita Carol “Bonnie” Lokre was born on September 16, 1931, on the family farm in rural Hanska to Clifford and Beatrice (Anderson) Oren. She attended Hanska Public School and graduated in 1949 as class president and Valedictorian. In November 1949 Bonnie was united in marriage to Palmer Lokre at Linden Lutheran Church in rural Hanska. They farmed in rural St. James until retirement. Bonnie also held positions at Tony Downs, 3M and spent many years as a home health aide. Over the years Bonita established and nurtured her faith and was a devoted servant to her Savior. She was a member of the Ladies group at LaSalle Lutheran church and was always available to help serve when needed. Her pride in her Norwegian heritage was such an important part of her life and legacy. She would prepare traditional dishes for her family such as lefse, lutefisk, and scrolls for holiday meals and her children recall these memories with joy and love. She enjoyed gardening and tending to her flowers. She had many beautiful gardens that she cared for meticulously. Bonnie’s favorite past time, however, was spending time with her family, particularly her grandchildren. She loved fishing, playing games, picnics in the park and hosting special holiday parties. She will be remembered for her kind heart and loving nature. Bonnie was a woman of many talents but something she was exceptionally gifted with was the ability to write beautiful poems with deep sentiment for family occasions, such as weddings. She truly loved her many special friends and the staff at Amberfield where she resided. She was thankful for the love, compassion and genuine care she received at Madelia Health, both the clinic and hospital. Blessed be her memory.
