Step into Mary and Joseph’s shoes

When I read of how Mary and Joseph came to know about the coming Messiah (Luke 1:2638 and Matthew 1:1825), I find myself taking a step into their shoes for a moment. How hard it must have been for Mary. She was unwed, still a virgin, and very young. What would her parents think? What would her friends say? Who would believe her when she claimed that it was a miraculous conception? Eventually, her “condition” would be visible for all to see and she’d be the talk of the town. And that’s not to even mention how her betrothed Joseph would look at her. What if he thought she had been unfaithful, and “loose” at that? And yet, in the description of Mary being told of this, we are told she’s confused, perhaps asking HOW it could happen, and she’s a tad disturbed as she’s trying to figure out what the angel even means with his news. We never see that she won’t go through with it. We never see her waiver or beg for it to go to another person. She is comforted in her fear, and says, “I serve the Lord, may all you say come true.”

Having spent all, or portions of, five decades in the classroom the topic of learning is a daily focus for most of the year. School calendars only cover 170 days or so and compulsory education wraps up a dozen years after kindergarten. Then what?

With Snow Comes Snow Emergencies

With it being December now, we continue to have the potential for more snow, and with that comes the possibility of a Snow Emergency being put into effect. It is important to get our city streets cleared from snow as soon as possible to prevent the buildup of snow and ice on the city streets. I would like to remind our citizens of the following regarding snow emergencies.
