Madelia Health announces flu shot available
While the coronavirus (COVID-19) continues to be on everyone’s mind, it is still important to protect yourself from the seasonal flu by getting your annual flu shot. This year, we are encouraging people to get their flu shot sooner, rather than later. You should get a flu vaccine before flu viruses begin spreading in your community, since it takes about two weeks after vaccination for antibodies to develop in the body and provide protection against flu.
Schools start year with new training after Seizure Smart Schools legislation passes
In August a walk was held in Marshall, hosted by the Epilepsy Foundation of Minnesota, both to raise awareness of the foundation’s efforts, as well as to celebrate the recently passed legislation regarding Seizure Smart Schools.
Events for the Watonwan County Libraries
•Scott Kudelka, a naturalist with the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources, will be giving three presentations at three different libraries on Thursday, Sept. 1. Mr. Kudelka will be retiring next month, so these will be some of your last chances to hear him present.
Tennis packs beginning matches in with six victories the first week
The St. James Area girls tennis team hosted several events to start the season, posting a 7-0 decision in each.
Cross Country races into season, looks ahead to Mt. Lake Meet

Shorthanded St. James Area cross country teams competed at Fairmont on Friday, Aug. 22, with both varsity and junior high runners. The next meet will be in Mt. Lake on Friday, Sept. 2, with a 10 a.m. start time.
Wings take off with victory in program’s first soccer match

The outcome matched the perfect weather as St. James/Windom Wings United boys soccer team defeated East Central Prairie 3-0 on Aug.
Fighting Saints Football season kicks off Friday

St. James Area will travel to Sherburn on Friday, Sept. 2 for the season opener against the Martin County West Mavericks with a 7 p.m. start time. The Saints geared up for live action with a scrimmage on Saturday morning, Aug. 27, at Winthrop.
