Saints match strong competition at 67th Annual Sentinel Relays

On May 6th the St. James track teams couple ideal weather with strong competition to chalk up outstanding efforts. It was the 67th Annual Sentinel Relays at Bob Bonk Track, named after the Fairmont coach who has dedicated nearly a half century to the Cardinal track and cross country programs. “The Sentinel Relays gave us the toughest competition we have had to date,” said Head Coach Scott Allen. “Our kids stepped up and performed well with many personal records.”

Railroad historians converge on Mankato May 19-22

More than 100 members of the Chicago & North Western Historical Society will gather in Mankato, May 19-22, for the society’s first in-person annual convention since 2019. The four-day event, “Rails & Rivers – Mankato 2022,” takes place at the Mayo Clinic Health System Event Center, 1 Civic Center Plaza, in downtown Mankato.

Uniting Cultures “Who we are, How we got here”

Uniting Cultures is seeking volunteers from the community to participate in the oral history portion of its “Who We Are, How We Got Here” long-range project, being carried out in collaboration and support with UM Morris through the Southwest Regional Sustainable Partnership. The goals of the oral history portion of the project are to record the voices of the St. James community, and to keep the cultures and stories of its residents alive by preserving the memory and cultural identity of individuals and families.

Senior Citizen Spotlight: Marion Edgar Style

My interview this month is with Marion Edgar Style. As we honor our local volunteers, Marion is a great volunteer. She is truly a Hometown Hero. Over the years, she has received many awards for being so generous with her time. She has been a very active and always giving back to the community.

Eric Penn, 74, of St. James passed away on Monday, May 9, 2022, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester. Funeral services are tentatively being planned for Monday, May 16 at Albion Lutheran Church with visitation Sunday at Sturm Funeral Home in St. James. A Mass of Christian Burial for LeiLani Rose Hurley, 84, of St. James will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 14, 2022, at St. James Catholic Church with Father Timothy Hall as Celebrant. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery in St. James. LeiLani joined her Savior on December 14, 2021, at Good Samaritan Society - Pleasant View in St. James.
