Cyclones bring home a national champion and 5 medals

The St. James Cyclones were in action at some tough tournaments this past weekend. Six Cyclones took to the mat in Rochester at the NYWA State tournament, bringing home 5 medals highlighted by Liam Freeman’s state championship. Liam participated in the 1-2nd grade 65lb weight class crushing his opponents on his way to the title. He pinned his first opponent in 0:18, tech falled his 2nd round opponent 15-0, got a pin in 2:30 in the semi finals, and finished with a 6-0 decision in the finals for his 2nd consecutive NYWA state championship. Knoxyn Barrett participated in the 3-4th grade 115 lb weight class and brought home a 5th place medal. He started his tournament with a 0:23 fall, dropped his quarterfinals match 5-8, then stormed back with a 6-2 & 2-0 decision to earn his way into the medal rounds. He dropped an 11-0 match and ended his tournament with a fall in 1:23 to earn 5th place. George Stevensen participated in the 3-4th grade 80lb weight class for the Cyclones. George dropped his first match by a close 7-0 decision. He then moved into the wrestlebacks and beat his next opponent by a 7-0 decision in his favor. George lost to his next opponent 6-0 ending his tournament.

Ronald O. Finstad

A Celebration of Life Service for Ronald O. Finstad, 80 of St. James will be 11 a.m. Thursday, April 14, 2022 at Hosanna Free Lutheran Church of St. James with Pastor Joe Faldet officiating. Burial will be in First Congregational Cemetery in rural Comfrey.

Model Railroad NMRA Meet

The Roadhouse Model Railroad Club will be hosting the Prairie Lake Division of the NMRA meet. There will be swap tables, workshops, and operating HO display. The event will be on Saturday, April 23 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. with the PLD meeting at 2:30 p.m. Admission will be $3 and children under 12 are free with paid adult.

Northside’s Muffins in the Morning

After two years of not being able to have Muffins in the Morning Northside students and adults were able to enjoy muffins together before school on Friday. 128 people attended the breakfast. Sarah Bunich
