New season and section, same team

St. James 2022 softball season has begun. The team is coming off one of their best seasons last year, finishing second place in the conference they went 17-6 with 10-2 conference record. Head Coach Sam Baumgartner said this was the most conference wins they had in the whole program.

Artist of the Week

Northside Elementary’s Artist of the Week this week is 4th grader Kendall Malmgren. Parents: Lucas, Brooke Malmgren Favorite instrument: Piano What do you want to be when you grow up? Mechanical Engineer Favorite part of music class: Learning about the different facts of music .

Saints take first place in 8 events

The Saints track team traveled to Mankato for another indoor track meet last Tuesday. At their first meet of the season both teams had runners place, making for a good starting place for the season.

Young team who’s ready to learn

Starting blocks and running shoes are coming out of storage with the start of track season for St. James athletes. Practices started on March 14 for the team and they recently had their first two meets where there were a lot of the kids placed.

Zoie Becker named MIAC Athlete of the Week

St. James graduate Zoie Becker was named MIAC Athlete of the Week last week. She was given this recognition after the St Mary’s Cardinals went from a 4-2 deficit to back to back 5-4 wins against Macalester and Bethel.

Jermaine Grove

Jermaine Grove, 80, passed away on Wednesday, February 23 at Good Samaritan, Sogge Memorial in Windom. A Celebration of Life Funeral Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, April 8, at the LaCanne Family Celebration of Life Center in Windom with Father Pratap officiating. Burial will be at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Windom. A time of visitation will be held on Friday, April 8 from 10-11 a.m. at the funeral home in Windom.

Senior Citizen Spotlight: Dennis Johnson

My interview this month is with Dennis Johnson, who has lived his entire life in St. James. He is truly a hometown hero. Over the years Johnson has received many awards for being so generous with his time. He has been very active and always giving back to the community.
