Robert L. Johnson passed away Saturday, January 21, 2023, at the age of 92 while in recovery from a broken hip.
Madelia Health to Open New Clinic in St. James

Madelia, Minn. – Madelia Health plans to open a new family medicine clinic late this summer in downtown St. James. They have purchased the St. James Federal Savings and Loan Association building located at 501 1st St. Ave. S., on the same block as the Princess Theater. Converting the building from a bank to a clinic will begin later this winter and spring.

Local Farmers the Hoffmans put up stalled motorists in a 1988 Blizzard

On a Sunday afternoon, Jan. 10, 1988, a strong blizzard hit with winds 30 to 40 mph. Just being good and kind neighbors Loretta and Gerald Hoffman, on highway 60 just east of St. James opened their house up to about 65 people (60 stalled motorists).

Evening of Love for one another and the Little Theater

Valentine’s Day is around the corner; if you are looking for an evening of love songs, the Community Theater has you covered. They will host An Evening of Love Songs, a fundraising event for the Little Theater Improvement Project on Feb. 11 at First Presbyterian Church at 7 p.m. Community members of all ages will be performing love songs. Plans include spotlighting students performing songs from the Lion King, this spring’s Children’s Theater musical, as well as high school students performing contest pieces. Desserts will be provided during the evening. At the end of the night, there will be a group sing-along and a special announcement about the sound system part of the project. “We have several individuals bringing fancy desserts. The whole Presbyterian Church will be a winter wonderland with trees, lights and snow, a little bit of red hearts for valentines.” said Community Education Director Sue Harris.
